#Innovatecities, at Acacia

As a blogger you get to meet different people with different ideas, careers and backgrounds. You network a lot. I was invited for a workshop for the Pilot project of Innovation in Marketplaces( mostly Urban), In Kisumu county. This was a partnership of UN HABITAT, County government of Kisumu and Lakehub.

The workshop target audience was the youth techies. We needed to establish problems within Kisumu County that could be sorted by technology. Technology included social media, apps, websites, etc.

Discussions…brainstorming

My favorite speaker was Mr. Nyamori.  He spoke passionately about his youth in comparison to current youth.

With emergence of new better technology, we can bring the change we want and need.

His punchline to me was,

‘do not wait to be invited to the decision making table, grab the chair, sit, let them ask who you are and then give them your ideas.

He also said that,

the current generation has so much freedom, question is, what role are you playing to bring change in your target area?

Well ,at least I left with something…even as I headed out for lunch, I felt contented that I had fed my mind with knowledge of the important things in society. I was also asking myself the right questions. Feeding my tummy would not be a problem now.

The buffet set up by Acacia Premier Hotel staff was amazing. You know how you line up feeling all so hungry and you are tempted to serve just a bit of everything? Yeah that was me. Anyways, I served just what I needed.

Take a look and if you are inspired, the doors at Acacia are always open.

Did I mention how the staff was kind, professional ?
